Stockbridge City Councilman John Blount has received the Certificate of Distinction from the Harold F. Holtz Municipal Training Institute.
Blount received the certificate at the Georgia Municipal Association’s Cities United Summit in Atlanta.
The Harold F. Holtz Municipal Training Institute, a cooperative effort of the GMA and the University of Georgia’s Carl Vinson Institute of Government, provides a nationally-recognized series of training opportunities for elected city officials.
To receive a Certificate of Distinction, a city official must complete a minimum of 204 units of credit, including at least 72 hours from a required list of courses and the Robert E. Knox Jr. Municipal Leadership Institute. The training program consists of a series of more than 60 courses.
Blount was one of just 20 city officials across the state to receive the Certificate of Distinction at the summit.
“I am truly honored to obtain my Certificate of Distinction,” Blount said in a press release. “I am grateful for the opportunity to have represented Stockbridge at the recent summit. Representing Stockbridge means letting the world know just how amazing our citizens are. Our community is quite exceptional, and my efforts put forth to obtain the Certificate of Distinction was to ensure that we continue to be trained at every level. I love serving the people of Stockbridge.”
“This is an outstanding achievement,” said Larry Hanson, GMA executive director, in a release. “We commend Councilman Blount for this accomplishment and for the dedication he’s shown in using this valuable resource to become a more effective city official.”
