Institute of Government demographer Taylor Hafley has been tapped as keynote speaker for the University of Georgia 2022 Community Leadership Conference. Hafley will share insights on 2020 Census data and how leaders can respond to demographic changes affecting the state.
The virtual conference will take place on March 1 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Hosted by the J.W. Fanning Institute for Leadership Development, a unit of UGA Public Service and Outreach, the theme for this year’s conference is “Leading Forward.”
“Whether it is demographic or economic changes or the continuing effects of the pandemic, new challenges and opportunities will present themselves,” said Matt Bishop, Fanning Institute director. “To respond to those, leaders must understand the changes that are taking place and develop knowledge and skills to see beyond the present and lead into the future.”
Hafley, faculty at the Carl Vinson Institute of Government, will lead off the conference
with a presentation on the 2020 Census figures and the population trends they show
in Georgia.
“This information can provide context for leaders as they plan for the future in their communities and organizations,” said Hafley.
Following Hafley’s presentation, breakout sessions at the conference will explore areas such as intergenerational leadership, inclusive leadership, adaptive leadership and emerging trends in leadership development. The conference will also include virtual networking opportunities.
“This year’s sessions cover topics at the forefront of leadership development and will help demonstrate how communities can incorporate these ideas into their programs to prepare leaders for the present and the future,” Bishop said.
Now in its seventh year, the conference brings together individuals from communities and organizations to share ideas and insights for strengthening communities, organizations and individuals through leadership development. In addition, the Fanning Institute will also present its annual Innovations in Community Leadership Award.
Last year’s conference, also held virtually due to the COVID-19 pandemic, drew a record number of 450 registrants.
