Elective - Industry Knowledge Track

This course provides an overview of the tools and resources available to communities interested in effectively responding to neighborhood problems such as dilapidated and unsafe structures, unsightly property, junk automobiles, weeds, trash and other nuisances. Topics include Georgia's Urban Redevelopment law, code enforcement and land bank authorities. This course is designed to provide economic developers and community leaders with the knowledge, skills and tools provided by law, state agencies and practitioners to encourage and facilitate the revitalization of neighborhoods and other declining areas of the community.

Learning Objectives:

  • gain an understanding about redevelopment tools

  • explore land banks and how to establish one

  • identify the effective use of existing organizations to achieve revitalization

  • examine best practices and successful community examples
