Brian Simmons joined the Institute of Government in 2013 and works in the Survey Research
and Evaluation Unit as an evaluation specialist with a particular focus on social
service projects. He works closely with clients and colleagues to develop and implement
evaluation and assessment projects.
Before coming to the Institute of Government, Brian worked for the University of
Utah’s Assessment and Referral Services providing mental health and substance abuse
assessments. As a clinical social worker, he has experience working with depression,
anxiety, mood disorders, and family counseling. His clinical background and skillset
are valuable assets in primary data collection with program consumers during individual
interviews and focus groups. He is adept with both qualitative and quantitative methodology.
His doctoral dissertation project in UGA’s School of Social Work is a social network
analysis of advocacy activities on Twitter.
