Sid Johnson is a Public Service Faculty Member in the institute’s Government Services
and Research division. He promotes UGA’s public service and outreach mission through
leadership training and technical assistance to state and local government agencies.
During his career in state government, Sid served in a variety of leadership roles
overseeing state agencies, regulatory functions, and strategic initiatives. He is
the current chairman of the Georgia Access to Medical Cannabis Commission. He previously
served as commissioner of the Georgia Department of Administrative Services, where
he led the state’s procurement, human resources, risk management, fleet management,
and surplus property functions. He also served as an ex officio member of the Employee
Retirement System board of trustees and as executive secretary for the State Personnel
Board and Employee Benefit Plan Council. As director of implementation for the Commission
for a New Georgia and of Stimulus Accountability, he worked with the federal government
and state agencies to ensure compliance with the American Recovery and Reinvestment
Act.
