Online Training and Development
Our online training courses combine the quality training associated with the UGA Institute of Government with the flexibility to meet the needs of busy government employees and elected officials. These courses allow students to progress through their chosen courses at their own pace and on their own schedules without the travel time and related travel expenses commonly accompanying traditional classroom training courses.
OUR ONLINE TRAINING PROGRAMS
Our online training courses are fully self-contained. There are no additional textbooks to purchase. Everything is online, from registration to course completion. Although there is no direct contact with an instructor in these courses, qualified Carl Vinson Institute of Government faculty are available to answer questions and further explain concepts through designated email accounts.
Our online courses cover important topics in financial and human resource management specific to state and local governments. Since their debut in 2001, the popularity of the online courses have grown, attracting not only students from Georgia, but nationwide and even internationally.
Department of Revenue courses
The Georgia Department of Revenue (GDOR) is statutorily required to provide continuing education to all local tax officials, staff and members of the county boards of equalization. Our online courses have been approved by GDOR as eligible continuing education courses.
Municipal Elected Officials Courses
The UGA Institute of Government partners with the Georgia Municipal Association (GMA)
to provide leadership development programs for newly elected mayors and council members
and advanced training programs for municipal officials. Some of these courses are
available online.
Human Resources
A government's most valuable asset is its people. Many government employees and elected officials are involved in the personnel functions in their governments. Our Human Resources: An Online Course for Governmental Officials will familiarize you with supervisory fundamentals and the legal aspects of human resources management.
Library Financial Management Certification
The UGA Institute of Government offers an online certification program to meet the unique needs of those in library financial management positions.
Local Government Certification Online Self-Study Classes
We work in partnership with the University of Georgia Center for Continuing Education to offer training necessary for a career in public service. Find a course that works for you, and build a foundational understanding of accounting, financial management and human resources in local governments.
