The city of Swainsboro has been awarded $2.5 million to address critical housing needs, thanks in part to work conducted by the University of Georgia Carl Vinson Institute of Government. The city submitted a housing assessment created by the Institute of Government in its application for funding through the state’s Rural Workforce Housing Initiative. The $2.5 million in OneGeorgia funds will support water, sewer, drainage and road infrastructure improvements to develop a 23-acre residential subdivision. The project is expected to result in 47 homes, addressing ongoing workforce housing needs and expanding the availability of affordable housing.
