Applied Demography

We provide Georgia leaders at all levels of government with regularly updated and consistent population data, which are key factors for informing policy decisions, from aging to zoning. Our Applied Demography program combines local trends with forecasting national, state and regional population changes. The resulting data and projections fill the gap between information compiled by the U.S. Census Bureau and what local governments collect. Our Applied Demography program offers tools to approach population issues by combining quantitative approaches with methods borrowed from social or other sciences. This application helps governments understand how specific population changes project into the future. For example, government leaders can prepare for a growing school system, plan water resources, or collect age and education data to attract business and industry. Our Applied Demography program can provide the data necessary for government leaders to plan wisely for their citizens.

Community Profiles

Community profiles include timely data and analysis about demographics, workforce, employers and education outcomes. Such information is essential to strategic planning and provides a springboard for projects. We use data published by national and state sources, including the U.S. Census Bureau, the Bureau of Economic Analysis, the Bureau of Labor Statistics and the Georgia Department of Labor, to name a few. We also purchase data from EMSI, a respected provider of labor market data. Our deliverables include slides using maps, graphs and other visualizations for meetings; project reports with visual and tabular data; and online, interactive visualizations. We also use Qlik, an online tool, to allow partners to interact with relevant data.
