Leadership Development

We offer a wide array of leadership training for government professionals designed and taught by our faculty. Popular offerings include supervisor and management development, economic development and leadership academies. We also customize training to an organization's needs. State agencies, local governments and other organizations turn to us to design and deliver customized leadership development programs.

Our signature leadership development program, Certified Public Manager (CPM), accredited through the National CPM Consortium, is designed to improve the quality and efficiency of government agencies by developing the effectiveness and professionalism of managers.

Financial Management

We offer a variety of financial training programs for city, county, state, school and library system finance and office personnel. Programs and classes are designed specifically for finance and accounting professionals in public settings. We offer primary accounting courses for state and local government as well as certification programs for local government finance professionals.

Our signature financial management training program, Public Finance Leadership Academy (PFLA), includes next-level training in financial management and leadership, outfitting participants with the distinguished skills to lead fiscal operations and effectively communicate at all levels of government and with the public.

Economic Development

We offer economic development professionals, development authority and downtown development authority board members, chambers of commerce, and government officials across Georgia training courses on subjects critical to economic development.

Our signature economic development training program, Georgia Certified Economic Developer (GCED), was created in partnership with the Georgia Economic Developers Association (GEDA) and offers practical, state-specific training to help communities build stronger, more resilient economies.

The Community Planning Program aims to educate and facilitate understanding of comprehensive planning, land use, growth management, decision making, strategic planning and implementation for local governments in Georgia.

Retreats and Facilitations

Planning retreats and customized facilitations offer time to discuss issues and set goals and priorities in a relaxed, informal atmosphere away from distractions. We offer planning retreats for cities and counties no matter their size.

K-12 Professionals, Boards

We offer a variety of training opportunities for those who work with schools, including courses for board of education members as well as professionals who work in K-12 systems.

Our training in accounting for schools is designed for K-12 school-based support personnel responsible for the day-to-day operation of school accounting and funds, budgets, purchasing, payroll processing and ensuring a school’s financial procedures are in line with state and federal laws.

Online Training and Development

Our online training combines quality training associated with the Institute of Government with flexibility to accommodate busy government employees and elected officials. Online courses allow students to progress at their own pace and on their own schedules without the travel time and related expenses incurred in traditional classroom courses.

Legislative Training

We support the Georgia General Assembly in training and advanced skills development, helping members navigate the world of public service. Key legislative programs include the Biennial Institute for Georgia Legislators, the Georgia Legislative Leadership Institute (GLLI) and the Legislative Environmental Policy Academy.

CPM offers professional development and recognized national certification for public managers working in various areas of public institutions and government.

The PFLA program combines the latest accounting practices and insight from industry professionals to expand on the institute’s Level I and Level II Finance Officer Certification programs.


Georgia Certified Economic Developer (GCED)

GCED reflects the realities of economic development in Georgia and helps economic development professionals enhance their knowledge and skills in five competency areas.


Certified Downtown Professional (CDP)

CDP provides downtown professionals with the knowledge and skills to effectively and responsibly foster growth, development, revitalization and preservation of downtown districts.
