Hampton Council member Mitchell earns training certification

Errol Mitchell, a member of the Hampton City Council, has successfully completed the required 72 credit hours to receive the for the Certificate of Achievement level of municipal training.

Through partnership between Georgia Municipal Association and the University of Georgia’s Carl Vinson Institute of Government, city officials can voluntarily take the opportunity to obtain additional training beyond the state-mandated Newly Elected Official Institute.

Mitchell’s next level of certification is Certificate of Excellence, which requires 120 credit hours.

Mitchell was elected to the City Council in 2017 and previously served as mayor pro tem.

In 2019 Mitchell received the Certificate of Recognition from the Harold F. Holtz Municipal Training Institute during the Georgia Municipal Association’s annual convention in Savannah in June.

To receive a Certificate of Recognition, a city official must complete a minimum of 42 units of credit, including at least 18 hours from a list of required classes.

The training program consists of a series of more than 60 courses.
